I went today for the first time in quite a while and was struck by how little football we tried to play on the ground. Too many long balls over the top for Jerome to run to, no width at all despite Larsson's man opf the match award, and no creativity until Hleb came on. The fact that none of our "flair" players were in the starting side worried me. I cant believe that they have all lost form/got injuries at the same time. I can only hope that this is playing ugly to get vital short term results because I cant honestly seeing this style of football getting us anywhere in the premiership. And we shouldnt blame all the woes of the side on Cameron Jerome. Yes he is not a top quality finisher but my god he does run after so many lost causes. If we survive...and it looks as if we should.....next season we need big changes. |

I dont disagree with you too much at all. I dont think we played that well today to be honest. I agree we didnt pass the ball that well. Over recent games we have got an appetite to get forward and exploit opportunities which is what we did. Our defence and goalkeeper stood firm and that was enough. I agree we need to improve the standard of passing going forward and more importantly the consistency particularly when under pressure. If our opponents play well for a spell it tends to knock us out of our stride. We must ensure we maintain our composure and when we get the ball make sure we play with quality and confidence. We certainly have to play much better. But I'll take win. :blues: |

Reason we dont play 'football' is due to the fact that we dont have good enough players and AM has stopped trying to play like we have and thats why we have managed to get 7 points from 3 games and pulled away from the drop zone.. I dont care how we play so long as we stay in the prem.. if we drop then with our financial problems its bye bye prem and hello administration!! |

Why have we stopped trying to play football? Hmm... I wasn't aware that we'd ever started. The guy who accused Sunderland of playing hoofball really made me chuckle- there's was only one team playing hoofball yesterday and it wasn't Sunderland. We were pretty good in the first ten minutes and not too bad in the last ten but the the small gap in the middle..... oh dear! |

Frustrating this there is no reason why Ferguson, Bowyer, Gardner, Jerome and Phillips cant play forward linking football setting up shots on goal. Sunderland pushed them out of their stride on Saturday. This is the one thing we must improve on we cant lose our confidence just because the other team start playing well. We must keep our composure and play confidently and with quality. We cant allow teams to bully us into thinking we arent good enough to play football and resort to kicking it. We passed the ball well at Wembley vs Arsenal we can do it against anybody. We were playing at home. The lads defended well yesterday and we won. We must keep belief in ourselves pass the ball positively, play with pace, get forward in numbers and cause teams problems. We must play with more conviction we are capable of playing much better than we did yesterday. Come on Blues lets go to Chelsea and Liverpool and really play well. :blues: |

Ah yes, Sunderland knocked us so much out of our stride and played so well that they scored 2 goals from midfield, kept a clean sheet, and left with 3 points! Oh wait a minute... |

We defended well and the team have to be commended for the way they defended but our forward play suffered. We have shown an appetite to exploit errors and make chances up front which we made the most of. However before Hleb came on the front 6 were not keeping the ball that well and we were not attacking with enough quality or fast enough. Hleb created a good chance and Gardner took it well. Sunderland did manage to break up our forward play. We didnt pass the ball that well yesterday and Sunderland controlled much of the game. The stats are not good reading fortunately we got the goals but we were dominated by Sunderland yesterday. The front 6 can do better than this and they should not allow a team like Sunderland to out play them. Blues--------------------Blackcats 4 -------Shots On Target 7 6 -------Shots Off Target 8 7 -------Fouls (Conceded) 10 4 -------Corners 9 0 -------Yellow Cards 0 0 -------Red Cards 0 |

and Tony what really bothered me was that we were playing a team with avery poor defence and pretty groggy morale wise after so may recent defeats. Why should we have been scared of them? If indeed we were scared, let me quickly say. But surely Jerome scared that full back with that early run of his. After that I didnt count a single save by their goalie until after the subs came on. Like you I have been a big supporter of Big Eck but yesterday worried me a lot. Yes the secong goal was terrific. Yes our defence was pretty solid. But midfield was awful, as was our shape for this type of game....IMO. A year or so ago we were getting plaudits from commentators for playing quick neat passing football. Not yesterday. We wont always have a goalie as good as Foster...not many have....but surely we have to develop a more attack minded approach next season. I for one will not be back if I think I am likely to see what I saw yesterday. Sorry but that is how I feel. If others on here want to attack me that is their option I suppose in this type of forum. But hopefully the owners want to build crowds...so they will have a quiet word where it matters. Big Eck is well enough set up in life to take the gamble og going for it next year. I hope Yeung and Co support him. |

We didnt have a great day yesterday but we got the result which was badly needed so we cant be too hard on them. We played better against Bolton. We do have things to improve on and we will step by step. :blues: |

Uhmm 15, but if you havn't been down for what I can assume is years surely there is some other reason like going abroad or something. surely £20 in 2-3 years isn't much. |
